Chatham County Cooperative Extension's new team members

The Chatham County Center of North Carolina Cooperative Extension is excited to announce we are back to a full staff! We had three new folks join the team on May 1: Victoria Brewer, Matt Jones, and Ashley Robbins. Continue reading below to find out what each of them will be doing.

Victoria Brewer is our new Administrative Assistant. Victoria holds a BS degree in Biological Sciences, a BS degree in Nutrition Science, and a minor in Health, all from NC State University. She has interned at NC State University and worked at Duke University Health System and Galloway Ridge at Fearrington Village. She has volunteered as a Nutrition Instructor, Health Educator, mentor, and tutor.


Matt Jones is our new Horticulture Agent. Matt’s educational responsibilities for commercial horticulture include working with the nursery and landscaping industry. Matt will also conduct educational programs for the consumer horticulture audience and train and supervise Extension Master Gardener Volunteers.

Matt transferred from the Harnett County Cooperative Extension Center where he did similar work for the past few years. Before coming to North Carolina, he worked as a Staff Research Associate for the University of California Cooperative Extension in Merced County. Matt has a MS and a BS in Botany from the University of Oklahoma. He also holds a joint MS in Horticultural Science from the Technical University in Munich, the University of Bologna, and the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna.


Ashley Robbins is our new Livestock and Forages Agent. Ashley has educational responsibilities for livestock, equine, forages, and field crops. She serves as the County Pesticide Coordinator and will provide educational training opportunities for private, public, and commercial operators to obtain and maintain their licenses.

Ashley has a MS degree in Animal Science from NC State University as well as a BS degree in Animal Science with a minor in Nutrition from NC State. She has worked at the NC State University Dairy Unit and Swine Unit, served as the Intern 4-H Youth Foundation Coordinator, and most recently was the Dairy Herd Manager at Fogleman Dairy. She also held leadership roles in the NC State Dairy Science Club and Animal Science Club.
