Farm Tour Photos: NCSU Faculty Visit Local Farms
I was asked to arrange an all day farm tour for faculty in North Carolina State University's Agricultural & Resource Economics Department to provide a better understanding of diversified small-scale farms and organic/sustainable production. I chose four farms that were representative of the types of farms and farmers in our area: young farmers, older farmers, farmers with less than 10 years experience, some with over 30 years' experience, some full-time on the farm, others where both farmers had full-time off-farm jobs, different enterprises, different access to capital, some transitioning the farm to employees, etc.
