There is nothing more enjoyable than having vegetables from your own garden. Nothing compares to the fresh, juicy flavors from garden grown vegetables. Here are tips to use when cooking those vegetables.

Grill

  1. Clean and chop vegetables.
  2. During grilling, brush both sides of vegetables with oil and seasonings or marinate of your choice.
  3. Grill vegetables, turning once, for indicated grilling time. Brush vegetables with additional oil and seasonings or marinate during grilling to ensure they stay moist and flavorful.

Roast

  1. Select one or more of a combination of vegetables.
  2. Cut vegetables the same size so they cook evenly.
  3. Toss with 1 tablespoon of olive oil or canola oil, and 2-3 teaspoons of one or a combination of spices.
  4. Place on a nonstick cooking pan (or pan lined with foil for easier clean-up) and roast at 425°F for 25-40 minutes. Give the vegetables a little space between each piece.
  5. Halfway through the cooking time, stir the vegetables to ensure even cooking.

Steam

  1. Choose 1/2 – 1 cup of vegetables per person.
  2. Thoroughly rinse vegetables. Trim and cut vegetables the same size so they will cook evenly.
  3. In a large pot, bring an inch or two of water to a boil over high heat.
  4. Place vegetables in a steamer basket. Add additional water to the pot if necessary to prevent the water from boiling dry.
  5. Remove vegetables from heat when they are still slightly crisp. Add approximately one-half teaspoon of desired seasoning(s) to taste.
