Are you looking for something educational but lots of fun for your kids to do this summer while they are out of school?? Here is a great opportunity. Below is a list of 2019 summer camps and activities:

Kids in the Kitchen – June 17–19

Ages:  5-7 years old     Time:  9 a.m.–noon

Cost:  $20.00   Snack Attack! Come learn how to prepare some of your favorite snacks and basic food preparation. Limited to 12 youth Instructor:  Der Holcomb, Family & Consumer Agent.

Discovery Day 4-H Camp – June 24–27

Ages:  8-12 years old Time:  8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

Cost:  $80.00   Come join in the fun of 4 days of discovery. Each day participants will enjoy educational and recreational activities, and transportation will be provided from the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Alexander County Center. Limited to 10 youth. Participants must bring a bag lunch and drink.

  • June 24 – Discovery Place
  • June 25 – Gem Mining and Statesville Water Park
  • June 26 – Crawdad’s Game
  • June 27 – Fish Hatchery & Fishing

Kids in the Kitchen – July 8–11

Ages:  8-12 years old Time:  9 a.m.– noon

Cost:  $30.00   Chopped Chef Style! Do you love cooking shows? Join in the competition fun. Participants will learn about different cooking techniques and knife skills all the while trying out new recipes. We will conclude the program with a competition but no elimination. Limited to 12 youth. Instructor:  Der Holcomb, Family & Consumer Science Agent.

Farm to Fork – July 15–18

Ages:   8-12 years old     Time:  9 a.m.–3 p.m

Cost:  $50.00   Learn how food goes from the farm to your table. Participants will visit local farms daily, and bring back what they picked to learn how to prepare it. Farms to be visited include Campbell’s U-pick Blueberry Farm, The Farmer’s Daughter, Cory Parker’s Tomato Greenhouse, and more. Participants must bring a bag lunch and drink daily. Limited to 10 youth.

STEM Days – July 29–31

Ages:  8-12 years old    Time:  9 a.m. -12 noon

Cost:  $40.00  Come participate in several STEM activities. STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. STEM activities provide hands-on and minds-on lessons for the student. Making math and science fun and interesting helps the student to do much more than just learn. Activities will include making rockets, slime, Bristlebots, and more. Limited to 10 youth.

Zoo Snooze – August 1–2

Ages:  7-12 years old          Cost:  $50.00

The NC Zoo offers exciting overnight programs to engage your brain, entertain your senses, and enhance your environmental awareness. This adventure includes special presentations, activities, light snack, an outdoor experience, and a craft to take home. The fun will resume the next morning, after a light breakfast, when we continue the adventure as a group in the NC Zoo’s 500-acre park. Limited to 10 youth.

Cloverbud Day Camp – August 6–8

Ages:  5-7 years old   Time:  8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

Cost:  $60.00

  • August 6 – Anita-Alta Camp (canoe, fish, outdoor fun)
  • August 7 – Lazy 5 Ranch
  • August 8 – Catawba Science Center & Geitner Park

4-H20 – August 19–22

  • August 19–20, 8 a.m.–2 p.m.
  • August 21 – arrive at 9 a.m. for overnight trip and return August 22 by 4 p.m.

Ages:  9-up     Cost:  $70

Learn about a career in aquatic and fisheries biology. Participants will learn about water and related environmental quality areas. You will be getting wet! Sessions will involve advanced water biology and testing skills, electrofishing, and advanced macro-invertebrate identification. One the last 2 days of the camp, campers will enjoy a rafting on the French Broad and an overnight camping trip in Hot Springs. Transportation will be provided from the N.C. Cooperative Extension-Alexander County Center to camp locations. Participants must bring a packed lunch and drink Monday-Wednesday and money for lunch on Thursday. Limited to 10 participants. Instructor:  Lenny Rogers and DJ Salyer, County Extension Agents.
