Chatham County 4-H has a long history of doing embryology projects in local schools. Traditionally the eggs were obtained from commercial hatcheries. Last spring Chatham County Cooperative Extension 4-H Program Assistant Ginger Cunningham wanted the kids to try hatching heritage breed chickens and ducks so she approached Pittsboro-based The Livestock Conservancy for their help. These two organizations collaborated for a very successful experience in the schools and they are looking forward to expanding their efforts this spring.
